Pure and Simple: food in Granny’s day

Here at Mrs Harris’ Shop, things were getting a little comfortable, so we were on the lookout for something new.

We found it, in the form of another exhibition, but one that we’ve set up off-site – in this case, in a delightful cafe in Blackwood, The Artisan Cafe.

The Artisan Cafe gives huge support to local artists, dedicating one of its walls to displaying their work.

We were lucky enough to secure the cafe for another Tasting Australia exhibition, Pure and Simple: food in Granny’s day.

Wendy Wright, Mary Pulford (both of whose work we have loved at Mrs Harris’ Shop) and Ann Whitby combine forces in this exhibition to lovingly depict the purity of food in times gone by: the purity of wild fruit and early cultivations – and the delightful, simple treats of granny’s tea parties.

Wendy’s water colours, Ann’s acrylics and Mary’s prints (worked over hand-written recipes from her great-grandmother’s recipe book) take us back to simpler times and sit beautifully beside the luscious treats on offer at The Artisan Cafe.
